One goal which hundreds of people approach me with each year, is that they want to be able to work at home and be successful doing so. However, the problem which most people who approach me with this goal face, is the fact that they end up facing barriers which they do not know how to deal with. One of the reasons we do not go after our goals with full vigor, is because when we are faced with an unexpected barrier which we are unsure how to deal with, we shut down. We become discouraged, we start making excuses, and we allow ourselves to back off of our original plan. While this is a human and natural tendency, it does not lend itself to success.

If your goal is to work at home, it is essential that you take steps to avoid these barrier shut downs.  What is needed in addition to carefully planning your goals, is to include backup plans for all those little unexpected barriers.

So now the question is, what kind of barriers can you pre-plan? I have some ideas:

1. Internal Barriers

Internal barriers include the thoughts you have about your goal, success, and yourself that keep you from being successful. They include your personal fears, motivation, self-esteem, and paradigms.

"What if I just don't feel like doing taking the baby steps required to achieve my ultimate goal?"

Solution = Commit to working on it for at least 25 minutes. Then take a break. Come back to it later.

"What if my fear of the phone keeps me from following through on my marketing campaign?"

Solution = Have a best friend or family member help me make phone calls. It might not be so bad if I am not alone.

"What if I find myself procrastinating?"

Solution = Ask a friend to call me each and every day to remind me to spend a little time on my goal. Work on my goal first thing in the morning to get it done and over with.

2. External Barriers

External barriers include barriers such as money, time, other people's reactions, resources, and results. We are not in direct control of them, but we can affect how they work and we can still plan around them.

"What if I do not have to money which is required by my work at home opportunity of interest?"

Solution = Find a free work at home solution, such as affiliate programs, and earn enough money to engage in your opportunity of interest.

"What if I do not know where to start with an affiliate program?"

Solution = The Internet is full of information on this niche, take advantage of it. You will need this knowledge for any work at home opportunity.

Continue this "what if" technique with even your small and short-term goals. It feels great to know that when a brick wall jumps in front of you, that you have the perfect solution for getting around it. Nothing should ever stop you from achieving your goal to work at home.
