Reviewing Work At Home Call Centers

A work at home opportunity which has gained some popularity in the marketplace over the past five years has been the telephone answering service. With this newfound fame, more people are looking to occupy this industry. This has been made evident by the increased volume of search engine queries for key terms such as, "answer calls from home", "work at home telephone", "call agent", "work at home call center", etc.

There are several telephone answering programs on the internet. I saw one such program claiming that they have six-hundred openings. Many of these home-based call center services are looking for people who are pleasant, have a professional phone presence, are not easily distracted while working at home, have strong computer navigation skills, etc. Furthermore, most home-based call centers require that you have at least one previous year of customer care, and prefer if you have previous phone support experience. One thing which I found interesting, but not surprising, is that there seems to be a high demand for individuals who speak two or more languages.

Keep in mind that if you are not very good verbally, this will not rule you out as a freelance customer service agent. In order to save on costs, more and more companies are opting to use online chat as a form of providing customer service. This is particularly true for smaller start-up companies.

Nonetheless, before accepting a position with a work at home call center, make sure that you know all details up front. You should be clear on how you will be compensated, which hours of the day you will be expected to work, what technical equipment you will need, whether or not you will have to purchase such equipment with your own money, the duration of your position, your expected call or chat volume, etc.  Also make sure that everything which you have stipulated to is in writing, so that you have legal recourse should the issue arise.

In summary, I do believe that work at home call centers are a viable way to earn a primary or secondary income on the internet. While you will need to do your research, choose the top program which matches your skill set and income goals.
