An online press release is a great means of promotion for those of us who make money online. They can provide a massive venue to reach an even larger online community. The purpose of this article, is to assist you in creating an optimized, well written press release, with the intent of distribution to a targeted demographic. 

 

Selecting the right keywords, or key phrase is the most critical part of press release optimization. Make sure that the keyword which you are targeting is relevant to the product or service which you are offering.

 

Further, the position of the keyword or key phrase is also very important. Make sure that it is placed into the headline, and the title of your press release. Thereafter, make sure that the keyword or key phrase is repeated two to three time within the content of the release.

 

Your headline must be attention grabbing. Keep in mind that your headline and initial paragraph cover the gist of the story, which the body depicts the details. If you are promoting a product or service, make sure that you repeat the name of your product or service to make it clear that this is the subject of the press release. Make sure that you spell out terms, rather than using abbreviations. For example, if you are promoting a "Search Engine Marketing" company, do not its abbreviation, SEM.

 

Draft your press release with the intent and expectation that it will be picked up my journalists and media agencies. While these individuals may moderately edit your release, if it is written badly, they will not even bother reading it, much less republishing it.

 

Also, keep your audience in mind. You should think of the demographic you are targeting in your press release, and what is likely to grab their attention. Put yourself in their shoes. If you were a member of the demographic which you are trying to target, what would grab your attention?

 

You should only include facts regarding your company in your press release, not opinions or speculation. Make sure that you keep the reader engaged by writing in an active voice, using verbs and descriptive language.

 

Use only sufficient and essential words. Avoid using superfluous adjectives, extravagant language, or unnecessary expressions like “The most powerful”. Tell your story with lesser words, as verbosity distracts from your content.

 

Avoid usage of terminology. Be concise and use common language whenever possible, and  stay away from the use of too many exclamation points.

 

Get company permission if you are going to mention a company which you are not the sole owner of in your press release. Companies are very protective about their image and credibility. If you are the sole owner of the company, or have permission from the other owners to address the media, the press release should include a short description of company, which depicts your company, products, service and a brief history of company.

 

Publish press releases frequently. If you publish frequently, you will come to be recognized as news source for news agencies such as Yahoo news and Google news. This will give your online businesses greater exposure, and increase your avenues to make money online.
