A misconception is that you can be successful by placing all your different affiliated banners on a single site. Doing this will make your site overflow with too many banners. The site will end up looking more like a link farm and visitors will not be interested in any of the products you are attempting to sell or market. If you want to promote several affiliate programs on a web site make sure that the banners you put up are in line with the niche. Three to four affiliate links on a site is a reasonable number depending on the size of the web page.
Many affiliate marketer think that if they add affiliate material to their sites they can generate instant sales. These affiliates don't realize that marketing is all about advertising. If there is no traffic hitting a site you can't expect to acquire any sales. The more you advertise your links, or the site where the affiliate links are placed, the greater the number of clickthru's you will get.
If you have any of the above misconceptions regarding affiliate marketing then you might need a mentor to help you learn where to start out and what to do to succeed. In the dictionary, the word mentor is defined as a wise and trusted instructor or counselor. Generally these individuals are experts in their niche. They can give skillful advice and direction as well as supervision to another individual. So an affiliate marketing mentor is an experienced counselor that has made affiliate marketing their specialty. Affiliate marketing mentors can be those persons that have already been successful in affiliate marketing and are always willing to share their experienced-based knowledge from the viewpoint of both the affiliates and the web merchants.
It's beneficial for an affiliate marketing mentor to utilize the many theories and generalities regarding Internet business. There's nothing more helpful and effective than telling the merchants and affiliates what works today and what are the things that could probably work in the future and if the trends are changing. Mentors are a huge source of knowledge and the affiliate and merchants can learn how to generate more income. As an affiliate or merchant you need to be knowledgeable and equipped with the keys to success. You should be willing to be guided as you try to do the things that can help boost your profit.
Articles on affiliate marketing say that in order to be successful in affiliate marketing you need to develop these traits: persistence, patience and a thirst for knowledge. A mentor's job is to help affiliates and merchants find these traits within themselves. Mentors have already developed these characteristics and it makes it very easy for them to explain them to others. Success in affiliate marketing requires sweat, blood and of course a hefty time commitment. Another trait affiliates and merchants must learn is to never give up.
A mentor must be an expert in SEO, link exchanges, email marketing, newsletter marketing, reciprocal exchanges and forum advertising. Affiliates and merchants often find these things hard to learn alone and without supervision from a mentor. When selecting a mentor be sure they are knowledgeable on the things mentioned above. Being a good mentor is harder than succeeding in affiliate marketing. Being one is very rewarding especially if the merchants or affiliates become successful. The failure of the merchant or affiliate is seen as a failure of the mentor.
