If you're talking about marketing, the first thing that comes to mind would be on how many people a campaign can reach and if the message will be effective, basically numbers. With social media marketing, the first thing that you need to accomplish is to get a high number of contacts on your profile page. Just like traditional advertising and marketing, the more views you get on your profile, the better exposure you have.

The higher your follower count on Facebook or twitter, the better the first impression people will have when they first check out your profile or page. The more followers you have, the more likely it is that they'll stop and browse your profile to see the reason why someone has a lot of people following him or her. If you have just a few friends on your list then there's a huge possibility that they'll just skim over your profile and move on to the next.

An extra reason why you'll want and need big numbers on your follower counts in social media networks is that the higher your followers, the easier for your content to go viral. Even if just a small percentage of your followers reposts your entry then you'll start a chain reaction that won't stop until almost everyone has read your post. You'll be amazed at how fast information gets spread around through social networks, next thing you know people will be sending you YOUR post because it's that interesting.

After raising a good number of followers, the next step would be to create a reputation as being someone of an authority figure in your field. The internet is such that saying something does not mean that you are actually that thing. A good reputation takes some time to build, it is not something that you inherit or you create overnight with a few well-placed SEO tricks.

To gain reputation, you must first display a willingness to help others. Answer questions on different forums and twitter pages and add those people as contacts. I know this may sound tedious but trust me, it will all pay off in the end.

Once you've make a name for yourself and you're confident about the number of people on your list then it's time to get on to the meat of the marketing. Just remember to take it slow and easy, much like seduction, as most people will respond to that type of tactic. Start off with small teasers and make them want more.

Take it slow to start with, don't demand that they do this and buy that. If you rush people, you'll likely break the reputation that you've created in the first place. As with any form of sales and marketing, patience is a virtue and haste leads to waste.
